In today’s solar market, lithium batteries are widely promoted as long-lasting and maintenance-free. While this is true in principle, many users overlook an important reality: Not every lithium battery on the market is new, healthy, or capable of delivering its rated performance.
Two batteries may look identical on the outside, yet perform very differently in actual use. The difference lies in cycle count, state of health, internal resistance, and usable capacity.

3 Ways to Determine True Battery Health

This allows you to see key data such as total cycle count, remaining capacity, and state of health. A low cycle battery will typically show close to 100 percent health, while a battery that has gone through thousands of cycles may drop to around 70 to 80 percent.

Even at 5000 cycles, a lithium battery can still work, but it will physically store and deliver less energy than when it was completely new.
Beyond the BMS, capacity testing gives the absolute true picture. This involves fully charging the battery and then discharging it under controlled conditions to measure how much energy it actually delivers.
